| The most pressing longer-term needs of the library for an
enlargement of the physical plant are as follows:
A moisture-free basement level, if this has not been addressed
already, to preserve the integrity and the future of the building.
Meeting and conference space.
A children's room that welcomes children and conveys a message that
children and their use of the library are important.
Display and exhibit space. Space for display of art.
Additional space for books and media.
Space for public access computers.
Quiet study space and more seating for adults.
Staff work space and an office for the Librarian.
Space for young adults.
Climate-controlled, or at minimum moisture-free space for the local
history/archives collection.
Tutoring space.
Complete handicapped accessibility.
Building security and enhancement of the library's image.
An improved site plan and parking.
Repair and insulation of windows to make them energy-efficient.
Inspection and repair of existing exterior building envelope.
With the exception of a cure for the moisture problem, nothing on
this list can really be addressed within the confines of the present
building - except at the expense of present operations. An
expansion will be necessary.
