Q: What about the possibility of acquiring the land immediately abutting the west side of the Library?

A: We investigated the possibility of purchasing this site, but were dissuaded by numerous potential problems: dislocating its existing families was undesirable.  The cost of demolition and asbestos abatement would be prohibitive.  Even if these concerns could be overcome, we would still be left with an additional cost for land purchase which would, finally not be enough to accommodate our proposed library's size or need for safe access of handicapped patrons.

The nine acres of land purchased in Copake was offered to us at a fraction of all estimated costs for obtaining this adjoining property.
