Registration
We issue bar-coded library cards to residents of our service area of Ancram, Copake and Hillsdale.
All patrons must fill out a registration card and present a photo ID to apply for a card. Children under the age of 18 must have a parent sign the registration card acknowledging responsibility for any lost or damaged items. If the patron’s photo ID address does not match the address filled out on the registration card, they must also present a piece of official mail (utility bill, bank statement, etc.) with their current address listed.
The first plastic library card is free. The cost of replacing a lost or stolen card is two dollars ($2.00). Patrons must present their library card or driver’s license when items are checked out.
If your card is expired, ask at the circulation desk to have it reinstated. You don’t need a new card.
PIN Numbers
When using the catalog to request items and to access your account information (what books you have out, due dates, fines etc) you will be asked to enter the barcode number on your library card and a PIN number. If you haven’t used the system before you can create a PIN number right there. Please make note of the pin number you enter and enter it carefully, as this will be the number you will use for future logins and staff and volunteers do not have access to your PIN number.
Library Lending Policies
Circulation & Fines
All library materials circulate free of charge. Every effort should be made to return library materials on or before the due date. You may borrow items only during scheduled library days and hours. Materials may not be checked out or returned during after-hours meetings or programs.
A maximum of four (4) video titles in any combination may be borrowed for seven (7) days. Return DVDs to the circulation desk and hand them to a staff member. Please inform staff if a DVD or VHS tape is defective or unplayable.
Videos/DVDs: 7 day loan period, $1.00 per day overdue fine, $10 maximum overdue fine, no renewals.
Short Loan Books: 7 day loan period, $.25 per day overdue fine, $10 maximum fine, no renewals.
Everything else in circulation: 21 day loan period, $.10 per day overdue fine, $5.00 maximum fine, one renewal.
All fines should be paid when the material is returned. Fines will be calculated on overdue items left in the book drop and the amount will be added to your patron accounting record. Patrons are responsible for the full replacement cost of lost or damaged items. Borrowing privileges may be suspended at any time if any item is more than two weeks overdue or if a fine greater than $5.00 is due. Fines and fees may be paid online.
