The Mid-Hudson Library System (MHLS) is one of
twenty-three independently chartered public library systems in the State of New York.
Mid-Hudson brings automation, education, consultation and delivery services to
71 public libraries and seven correctional facilities, which are scattered
across the 3,000 mile, five county region of Columbia, Dutchess, Greene, Putnam
and Ulster counties.
Mid-Hudson's headquarters are located in
Poughkeepsie and adjacent to the Adriance Memorial Library - its Central
Library.
The 71 libraries (65 libraries, 6
branches) of the Mid-Hudson Library System directly serve a population of
approximately 583,000. MHLS, through its member libraries, circulates
selected print and audio-visual materials, at no charge and provides information
through electronic resource-sharing. The System has a full-time staff of
23, including a professional management team of 5 working with an executive
director, and a part-time staff of 24.
Mission Statement
The Mid-Hudson Library System, a
component of the Statewide Library Network, serving member libraries in the five
counties of Columbia, Dutchess, Greene, Putnam and Ulster, has as its primary
mission:
1. to facilitate and promote among its member libraries cooperative
activities designed to expand and improve the quality of all library services
available to residents of the System service area, and
2. to facilitate the sharing of System and member library resources with
all types of libraries both within and outside the System service area.
