The Friends was formed in 1976 as a support organization to the library's Board of Trustees and Library Director.  The group's purpose is to help focus attention on the library and to stimulate the use of its resources and services.

The Friends concentrate their efforts in three major areas:

Volunteers.  Assist the library director at the circulation desk and with numerous projects.  The Friends recruit and schedule this volunteer staff.

Special Programs.  These include children's story, craft and music programs, summer reading programs and adult speakers.

Fund Raising.  The Friends raise money for library programs and equipment by hosting an annual June Fair, a December Book  and Cookie Sale, and through membership fees and periodic book sales.

The Friends have made generous contributions to the Trustees for the purchase of books, shelving and special items needed in the library.  Their recent purchases include circulation and public access computers, a microform reader/printer, books-on-tape and new carpeting.

In general terms, the Friends provide the perks and supply the special items that are not covered by the Trustees.
