Heather Andersen
Cycling Solo Through Southern Africa

Local author Heather Andersen will speak about her experiences, show slides and read from her memoir I Never Intended to Be Brave: A Woman’s Bicycle Journey Through Southern Africa as part of National Bike Month. Signed copies of the book will be available for sale.

She’s biked in all 50 U.S. states and on six continents.

Andersen will also help cut the ribbon for the Library’s new bike rack, a gift of Hillsdale residents Shirley Ripullone and Ken Stahl. A reception will follow the dedication and talk, hosted by the Harlem Valley Rail Trail Association, where Ms. Andersen serves as a member of the Board of Directors. More details here.

Judy Saber is a writer, actor, art gallery curator and founder of the innovative troupe of local actors known as The PantoLoons. She will read from and sign copies of her new memoir, Silverlands: Growing Up at the Actors’ Orphanage.

4H bird club

Saturday Mornings 10:30 am to noon.
Four sessions. Starting May 12th continuing through June 2nd.
Kindergarten through 6th Grade. Free.

Learn all about birds, their habits, homes and diets! We will do crafts, learn about bird anatomy and habitations, and practice skills like observing and predicting.

Class size is limited to 15 and we must have at least 5 to start this 4h program. It will be led
by 4h instructor Jane Weaver. Sign-up at the library.

Art Exhibit
Blechman is an American animator, illustrator, children’s-book author, graphic novelist and editorial cartoonist whose work has been the subject of retrospectives at the Museum of Modern Art and other institutions. Inducted into the Art Directors Hall of Fame in 1999, he has done 14 covers for the New Yorker. He is a resident of Ancram.

Free Museum Passes Available

The Friends of Roe Jan Library offers four free museum passes for use with the Clark, the Berkshire Museum, the Norman Rockwell and the Hancock Shaker Museums. Each pass offers two to four adult entrances, some child benefits and discounts on gift shops. The passes can be reserved or checked out at the Library for one day with a library card. For more information call 325 4101.

“Maggie and I used the Friend’s free pass on Sunday (1/29/2012) to see the Audubon exhibit at the Berkshire Museum in Pittsfield. With both hundreds of stuffed birds and the fabulous prints, the exhibit knocked our socks off. It is simply spectacular. I’m also ashamed to say that I had never visited this little jewel of a museum. Go. Now. And if you have children or grandchildren it is hard to find a more user-friendly museum anywhere.” – Ned Schneier – (The Audubon exhibit will be there until June 17, 2012.)

Mondays 8:00-9:30am – Yoga Conducted by Roberta Roll. Weekly yoga classes are suitable for beginners and more advanced students. $20 per class or $95 for a series of eight classes. A portion of the proceeds helps support Library programs.

Second Tuesdays 7-9 pm – Roeliff Jansen Community Library Trustees Meeting, Community Room.

Second Saturdays – 10am-11am Dogs Love Books Join Ms. McCord and her canine companions, Tansy and Toast in the Children’s Room. Ms. McCord will read stories and kids can read to the dogs, too!
