What Is “Green” Building?

The new library will be a “green” building…environmental, economical, ethical, educational.

The use of green technologies will significantly reduce energy consumption, and the annual savings in heating and cooling expenses will help keep operating costs at a minimum for the entire life of the building.

Up to 75% of additional costs for implementing green technologies will be subsidized by NYSERDA (New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, a state organization that is funded from pennies that have been added to all of our utility bills).

Building Design and Construction That Considers:

  • The creation of a healthy indoor environment

  • Maximum energy efficiency and lower overhead

  • Conservative and thoughtful use of natural resources

The New Library Will Incorporate:

  • A geo-thermal heating and cooling system

  • Solar energy, through efficient windows and photovoltaic cells

  • Use of non-toxic, environmentally friendly building materials

  • Water-filtration and building insulation systems that take advantage of our sloping site
