November 2007 Campaign Kick-Off Party was a huge success!

The "Dream to Reality" capital campaign kick-off party was held on November 1 at the Copake Memorial Park building. We thanked the campaign's lead donors and announced the public phase of the $1.8 million capital campaign.

About 80 community members attended. Campaign co-chairs Ned Schneier of Copake and Meg Mettler Wormley, a Roe Jan native who recently returned to this area, officiated. Refreshments were donated by Michael Miller and David Boagin of Berkshire Blue Cheese, Ron and Alanne Bixby of Little Apple Farm, and the Bakery at Camphill Village.

The vision of a new library for the Roe Jan community came another step closer to reality at the event. Robert and Ursula Covino, owners of Shagbark Tree Farm in Copake, made a five-year pledge of $100,000. The patio in the new library facility will be named in their honor.

Weir Stewart, former owner of Odyssey Farm and a friend of the Covinos, was the driving force behind this surprise gift. Mr. Stewart has pledged $200,000 toward the new library, naming the children's area in honor of his late wife, Deborah.

Other lead donors to the campaign are the Hudson River Bank & Trust Company Foundation, the Ackley sisters, and the Friends of the Roeliff Jansen Community Library.
