5 Year Plan

Roeliff Jansen Community Library
Five-year Plan of Service
2014 – 2019

You can find a Progress Report on how the library is accomplishing the 5 Year Plan HERE.

How the Five-year Plan was developed

This plan outlines the vision, mission and goals that the Roeliff Jansen Community Library will pursue in the five-year period from 2014 to 2019.

To engage the community in developing the plan, the Board of Trustees established a Five-Year Plan Committee to conduct surveys of the residents of Ancram, Copake and Hillsdale by mail and online. In addition, the Committee organized 16 focus groups in which participants were asked to tell us what they liked about the Library and what could be improved.

These groups included farmers, educators, business people, social service workers, religious leaders, artists and writers, town officials, full-time residents and weekenders, teachers, donors, frequent Library users, first responders, Friends of the Roeliff Jansen Community Library, staff and volunteers.

Participants offered many suggestions about the role they thought the Library ought to play in the community, and the materials and programs we should offer. The Committee then analyzed the findings and established goals that we believe are achievable in the context of the Library’s resources and capabilities.

We thank the community for their constructive engagement and for the many excellent ideas they contributed. We encourage everyone in the communities we serve to help achieve the goals of this plan.
